YASHASKARAM SHIELD: Central Bank of India organized an elocution competition on 9th August, 2015 for students of 8th, 9th and 10th standards across various schools of Thane and Mumbai. Rhea Banerjee and Isha Shetty from class IX secured the first prize and were awarded the Yashaskaram Shield. Mrs. Julie Ghosh, the teacher incharge was awarded the Dronacharya Shield.
MANTHAN: Arya Gurukul School organized an interschool competition, ‘Manthan’ from 9th to 15th of August 2015-16. Birla School students were awarded prizes in various categories.
Avni Bharadwaj secured the third position in elocution/ poem citation.
Khushi Mehta and Shashank Shenoy secured the second position for collage making.
Rishika Kumar and Jiya Gangwal secured the second position in Science model making.
Esha Velankar and Mandar Gambir secured the third position in poster making.
Padmaja Chavan and Saumya Navani secured the first position in Science quiz.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS:
Independence Day evokes the feeling of patriotism in the heart of every Indian. This year again, the day was celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm and zeal by the students and staff. The chief guest for the function was the school alumnus Mr. Arushik Shetty. Post hoisting of flag and parade, a cultural programme was organized which included patriotic songs, dances and speeches. The chief guest in his speech appreciated the cultural programme presented by the students.
CREATORS OF CREATIVITY- The students of class VII were assigned the English project-Creators of creativity- poets of various countries. It was an ISA project to study about the writing style of poets in India and U.K.
The students were asked to compare and contrast the choice of works, literary devices and rhyme scheme of the poems of various poets. The time allotted for conducting this activity was 2 weeks of August.
The class was divided into 8 groups of five students in each. Students were given a choice of poets from India and U.K. Research was done by the students such as collecting the biography of poets, poems etc. During the process, the teacher taught them the literary device and rhyme scheme used in the poem. After the research, group discussion was conducted on 25th August 2015 in their respective classrooms. The students were asked to present the poem content allotted to them. After the presentation, students were asked to fill the questionnaire based on presentation. Later, a quiz was conducted 28th August in the activity hall. Three students from each division were selected on the quiz based on the performance of questionnaire. Parents were also invited for the quiz as spectators.
Overall, this activity helped the students to enhance their vocabulary and get insight of similarities and differences between U.K poet and Indian poet. This activity also helped them to understand the concept of poetic device and rhyme scheme.
FANCY DRESS COMPETITION: Jr. Kg (A and B) and Jr. Kg (C, D, and E) celebrated fancy dress competition on August 8, 2015, and August 22, 2015, respectively. The theme “Gadgets Current/Futuristic” was very well depicted by the children. Kudos to them and their parents for such great efforts and enthusiasm!!!
FRUITS DAY: Fruits Day was celebrated by the tiny tots on August 25, 2015. On this special day, children were asked to bring their favourite fruits. They brought them to the class to share with their friends and learnt about various fruits. The tiny tots also learnt about the taste, smell, colour and texture of each fruit. Children understood the importance of washing the fruits before eating and the benefits of eating fresh fruits. Finally, the teacher mixed the variety of fruits brought by the children and prepared a tasty Fruit Salad. The children enjoyed the yummy Fruit Salad.
RAKSHA BANDHAN: On August 28, 2015, we celebrated Raksha Bandhan festival. Children were dressed in traditional attire. Girls tied rakhis on the wrist of the boys and the boys in return gifted them chocolates. It was a day highlighting the traditional values, a day accentuating the brother-sister relationship, and a day overflowing with emotions.
CAMLIN COLOUR CONTEST: Camlin Colour Contest was conducted on August 28, 2015. The topics given to them “Fun at School” for Jr. KG & Sr. KG were creatively drawn by our young artists. All the children participated in this competition. They explored their imagination while choosing the colour of their choice to colour the picture. It was an opportunity for self-expression through colouring. Children enjoyed the activity and were very happy.
ORANGE DAY: In the name of the colour Orange, our pre-primary students celebrated a day of fun and frolic on August 31, 2015. The classrooms were festooned with orange-coloured charts and pictures. Children also were dressed in different shades of Orange. They spoke a few lines about the different objects – oranges, carrots, pumpkin, flowers, etc., they had brought for object talk. Indeed, it was a day filled with sweet smiles and the teacher’s applause.
CRYPTIC CROSSWORD CONTEST: CBSE conducted a crossword competition at Vile Parle on 27th August, 2015. The contest was based on general knowledge and vocabulary of the students. Many schools from the city participated in the competition. Pranjal Agarwal from XI and Saumya Navani from X standard were the participants from Birla School, Kalyan.
BUILDING SELF CONFIDENCE AND GOAL SETTING:
A workshop on building self-confidence and goal setting was conducted on 27th and 28th August for students of class IX and X by Mr. Ramnath Dixit. The two day workshop was very interactive with discussions, video presentations, activities and stories.
